Excerpts from Deep And Crisp

The Way to Bethlehem

How rough is the way to Bethlehem?
Through deep clefts, my friend,
Narrow and steep to the end,
And across burning sand;
But see who waits to take your hand.

How wild is the way to Bethlehem
Lions and wolves lurk there,
My friend; ravenous bear
And robbers are not few,
But the Lord waits to walk with you.

How long is the way to Bethlehem?
So long and hard, my friend,
It lasts until life’s end:
But see how short for all
The friends who answer Jesus’ call.
